Building section: Crossing the river Elbe
Waste water association "Wilde Sau" Dresden
The wastewater association "Wilde Sau" is planning a route between the wastewater treatment plants in Klipphausen and Dresden-Kaditz. Over twelve kilometers, the new wastewater pipeline runs along the A4 and crosses the Elbe between Cotta and Kaditz in the final section.
In the initial planning, the route was to be routed across the river through an open culvert ("Düker"). This traditional method of river crossing is very time-consuming and costly, extremely flood-prone and in itself represents an intervention in the sensitive Elbe foreland that is difficult to assess. As a time and cost-saving alternative with a greatly minimised impact on nature and the environment, the Elbe and the Elbe foreland will be crossed at a depth of 7m over a length of approx. 550m using the HDD method at the suggestion of the company carrying out the construction. After intensive project preparation, the client and planners decided to use a Gerodur RCprotect® pipe of SDR level 7.4 for the pipe pull-in by means of HDD, so that both the pipeline can be pulled in with great tensile force and later operated with the required pressure load. When the main pipe is pulled in, 2 EMDS empty pipes made of PE100-RC are attached for subsequent cable laying. The preparation and execution of the pipe pull-in is actively supervised by GERODUR's expert advisors.
