The municipal utilities of Bielefeld are realising a complex energy infrastructure project in the Westphalian city - the comprehensive networking of the city's supply lines and substations as well as the feed-in of renewable energy sources. As part of these modernisation and expansion measures, various energy hubs will be interconnected in several construction phases. This will ensure a stable and sufficient supply of electricity to existing households, businesses and public facilities as well as future investment projects. In the second project phase, a 110,000-volt line is being built between the transformer station at the university and the Zwinger transformer station in the city centre on behalf of Bielefelder Netz GmbH. The high-voltage cables are to be pulled into protective conduits laid underground in advance. EMDS protective conduits of the high-performance class LHT® are ideally suited for this application, as they have high temperature stability in addition to their installation-friendly material properties. Depending on the local conditions, the E-POWER protective pipes are laid using open or closed construction methods (trenching or horizontal directional drilling). The use of project-specific pipe coils and pipe reels also enables economical pipe installation, as the other costs for many individual welded joints (with straight lengths) are eliminated.
