Reliable seawater supply for research centre
With the new construction of the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research in Kiel, the institute has also received a new seawater pipeline that will significantly improve research operations. Self-sinking SESU PE100-RC pipes from the Norwegian manufacturer Hallingplast were chosen for the pipeline, which do not require additional ballasting and therefore save time and costs during subsea installation. The pipes are particularly robust, protect against buoyancy and external influences such as anchor throw and rockfall and were specially developed for laying on the water bed. The construction work was completed in July 2024 and will ensure a reliable supply of seawater for the research centre.
