Pipelaying with the Relining method - GEROfit^® R

Kommunale Wasserwerke Leipzig GmbH has renewed and supplemented the pipeline network for drinking water supply outside of Leipzig and in several suburbs. In sections, existing old cast iron water pipes were used for the pipeline routing. For this purpose, GEROfit^® R pressure pipes made of PE100-RC with a highly crack-resistant protective jacket made of a modified polyolefin compound were pulled into the old pipeline by means of relining. At the branches and distribution points, the corresponding fittings were retrofitted as weld-on saddles.
The decision was made to use GEROfit^® NEXUS pipes from Gerodur for the new pipeline sections to be laid and to lay them using the HDD method. Thanks to the integrated, dual GEROfit^® NEXUS locating wire system, the actual pipe routing in the ground could be precisely determined after laying and documented for planning purposes.
With both pipe-laying methods, considerable costs could be avoided in terms of the expenses saved on excavation work and the associated restrictions on urban traffic.
Both the assembly of the fittings and the production of the GEROfit^® NEXUS welded joints and post-weld coatings were actively supported by the experienced technical staff of Gerodur during construction.
