As part of the national restructuring of the energy supply in Germany, the grid operator Amprion GmbH is planning a connection route to the distribution grid operator Westnetz GmbH. For this purpose, six 308kV cable strands have to be laid underground over a distance of almost 700m from the newly built transformer station in Bacharach to the grid distributor in Rheinböllen.
Amprion GmbH, as the planner, has decided to use an EMDS protection pipe system of the high-performance class LHT® from Gerodur, which will be laid using the soil-conserving, trenchless "E-Power-Pipe" method from Herrenknecht AG - an innovative combination of the proven drilling technologies Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) and Microtunnelling (pipe jacking). The high-temperature resistant E-POWER pipe meets the high mechanical requirements of this installation as well as the subsequent temperature-intensive operation of high-voltage lines.
