The town Tampere in southwestern Finland is expanding - industry and commerce are settling and new residential areas are being built. To meet the resulting increased demand for drinking water, the existing drinking water supply is considerably expanded and a new pipeline is laid from the Tampere Vesi waterworks along the shortest route through Lake Näsijarvi to Nurmi Beach. Due to the expected pipe stress during installation (drawing in and lowering into the lake) as well as during long-term operation on the lake bottom, a protective jacket pipe of the type GEROfit® R is used. In this way, the individual pipe rods can be connected and laid into 500m long laying sections by means of butt welding, without having to cut back the jacket and re-insulate.
