Finland is the land of lakes. The Finns make good use of this natural resource of fresh water for their potable water supply. In this case, for example, a new transport pipeline was built to carry raw water from a lake in the north of the southern Finnish city of Porvoo to the waterworks' filtration plant. In the Ilola section, about 10 km to the north-east of the city, the client opted for a diffusion-proof GEROfit® REX drinking water pipe. The reason for this is the agricultural livestock farming in this area and the associated concern of affecting the taste of the raw water due to the soil conditions. Due to the geological and geographical conditions, it was decided to lay the pipeline in an open trench. During the welding work, the contracted construction company was actively supported by application technicians from Gerodur.
