The department for waterways and shipping (WSA) Spree-Havel plans to extensively renovate a road bridge over the Oder-Spree Canal in the district of Rautenkranz. As the supply lines of TAZV Oderaue are located on this bridge, relocating them was unavoidable. In the interests of a durable and high-quality solution, the special-purpose association and the municipalities decided to lay new pipe systems under the waterway. This crossing was to be realised as a parallel culvert using the HDD method. At the same time, EMDS protective pipes of the PE100-RC high-performance class were laid as empty conduits for any future cable or pipe feeds.
As the trenchless installation (HDD) puts a lot of stress on the pipe wall, the engineering office responsible for the planning decided to use the high-quality GEROfit^® R protective jacket pipe system and a RCprotect^® pipe made of stress crack-resistant PE100-RC. By using a Gerodur welding container (GEROtool^® WELDBOX), it was possible to guarantee optimum conditions for the production of DVS-compliant butt fusion connections on the construction site despite the adverse weather conditions.
