Upgrading of a water transport pipeline in Schulzendorf

In the municipality of Schulzendorf, located on the outskirts of Berlin, a corroded DN 600 steel water main distribution pipeline had to be rehabilitated. The existing route was to be used for the new installation. After intensive planning and consideration of all influencing factors, the old pipe was rehabilitated in sections using various relining techniques. In the "Ernst-Thälmann-Straße" section, a PE100 RC pipe with DN /­ OD 630 mm was laid over a length of 760 m using the DynTec method from Diringer & Scheidel Rohrsanierungs GmbH. In close consultation with the project management, the decision was made in favour of an RCprotect^® potable water pipe in SDR level 17 from Gerodur, which ensures optimum, elastic deformability with low deformation forces.
The highly flexible PE pipe is tapered to the inner diameter of the old pipe by means of a conical "swage ring" and pulled in. After being drawn in, the new pipe expands again and fits tightly against the inside of the old pipe (memory effect). This means that the largest possible cross-section can be used for the subsequent pumping of potable water. By using a polyethylene pipe, corrosion and leakage of the pipeline are excluded and a long service life (up to 100 years) is guaranteed.
